​Welcoming your new baby into the world is one of the most emotional and incredible times in your life.
It’s a time that deserves to be captured forever so you never forget what it felt like when your baby was so tiny and new.​

​The best time for a newborn session is within the first 2-3 weeks of your baby's arrival. This is when they are at their most restful, comfortable and content during a session.

To ensure availability for your session so soon after baby's arrival, and to avoid disappointment it is best to book your newborn session while you are pregnant. Although birth dates are not exact, a space is pencilled in for you on your due date which will secure your spot. Then once your baby is here, we confirm the exact date the session will take place. ​

All newborn sessions take place in our Timaru studio on weekday mornings.  
During your session your baby is photographed in a range of both natural and carefully positioned poses.  We have a selection of beautiful high quality wraps, outfits and accessories as well as a great collection of props including little beds, bowls, baskets and boxes.

During a newborn session, we have the luxury of time (between 1-3 hours) to create a variety of set-ups including both natural and prop set-ups with your baby.  Siblings and immediate family are included with all newborn sessions so we can also capture all the love and the beautiful connections you have together as a family. 

You and your brand new baby's comfort and safety are my highest priority while you are in the studio, so newborn sessions are never rushed and are completely guided by the baby.  Plenty of time allows for feeding, changing, settling of baby and plenty of cuddles.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my newborn session?

To avoid disappointment it is recommended to book well in advance for your newborn session. Soon after your 20 week scan is ideal.
​I only take a limited amount of newborn sessions per month, so booking early will ensure availability for your session. 
Initially a space is saved for you on your baby's due date then once your baby actually arrives, we can confirm the exact date that will suit. 

What age do you photograph newborns?

I recommend your baby to be between approximately 6 - 21 days old. 

My newborn is already over 21 days old, have I missed out?

While it is ideal that your newborn is only a few weeks old, I have photographed many older newborns and there is absolutely no age limit on when your baby can be photographed. It just means that some of the session and set-ups may be done a little different, depending on the age and size of your baby.

Where are newborn sessions held?

All newborn sessions take place in my professional studio at 27B Royal Arcade, Timaru.
​Newborn sessions are all held on weekday mornings (Tuesday - Friday).

How long will the photoshoot take?

You need to allow approximately 1-3 hours for your newborn session. This may seem like a long time but with this time we can create many different set-ups, include all your family posing, wrangle toddlers or pets (if necessary) and of course have plenty of time for feeding, settling, changing and cuddles.  The session is not rushed, I want your baby to be comfortable, content and happy the whole time.

Are parents and siblings included?

Yes, everyone can be included in the session.  You can even bring grandparents and/or your family pet(s) if you want to!  These memories we create with your family are so special, I always encourage parents to be involved, even if you aren't quite feeling like it - usually it will be these images that you will love the most!

What do we wear and what do we need to bring?

​All that is necessary for a newborn session is provided at the studio, including outfits for mums to wear.  You are welcome to bring a special or sentimental item of your own if you have something you would like to included as part of the session.
As part of our pre-session planning, we can go over all the details of your session as well as your clothing options.  As a rule though, neutral or earthly tones are best. Very bright colours, bold stripes or lots of patterns and logos should be avoided. 

Do you have props?

Yes! The studio is filled with beautiful props and accessories including outfits, blankets, wraps, hats and headbands which are all available to you during your session. During our planning we will have a chat about what style and colours you like and your session is styled to suit your taste.

How much does it cost?

Digital packages start from $400 for a Petite newborn session.  You can choose a package that best suits you and your family.  Printed products are also available for purchase when you view your gallery.  The total investment you make is totally up to you.  For full details on all pricing including printed products, please get in touch.  

Do you have payment options?

Yes I have Zip available as well as an interest free 'in house' lay-buy option.

When do we receive the images?

Your private online gallery will be ready to view within 7 days of your session.  This is where you will get to view and select your favourite images.  From here it is an easy add-on for any printed items you may also like.
Once you have chosen your images, they will be fully retouched and your digital images sent to you within 2 weeks. Printed products can take up to 4-8 weeks to arrive.

Are you fully vaccinated?

Yes. I am current in all recommended vaccinations including Whooping Cough and MMR.
